Anguis Aeturnus

Hail to Anguis Aeturnus and welcome to the blood-river interview section.
What I'm going to do is to send you a question and then tailor the next question to your response, it will give the interview a more welcoming feeling.
The only other option is to send you a fixed set of interview questions but to be honest I've tried that before and frankly it's a shit way.

In keeping with the tone and style of Blood-River (And to reinforce viewers opinions that I have totally fucking lost it it, I'll turn you over to our resident interviewer, Dave, who happens to be a baby seal.

Over to you Dave.

Thanks Koil.

Hail Anguis Aeturnus, let's jump into the deep end shall we and ask you if you actually like your home town. Would you cal Sleaford a town full of metallers? What are the shops like? Come on! spill the beans

Ahem... Sleaford is far from a metal town. Lincolnshire barely has a metal scene. Put it this way, Anguis Aeturnus IS the metal scene. People here can collectively kiss my arse.

The only thing to do in this ass-backward, pisspoor excuse for a town is get drunk. That's my excuse anyway...

I see what you mean, I've just done a google search for gigs in Sleaford and the Search engine just laughed at me. Fuck, that sucks big time, have you ever thought of moving? So as far as you know you are the only extreme metal band in Sleaford?

As far as I know... and its impossible to find even a decent extreme-metal guitarist. Its a blessing in disguise though i guess, its how AA was born, bein a solo project and all.

I'm going to Northhampton University in October so hopefully the metal scene will be better down there.

Oh yeah, Northampton has a half decent metal scene and even gigging pubs! Check out Days Under Fire, they're from there. hang on, just get you an URL...Here we are.

Ok so tell me how you got into black metal?

Good... i'm glad i'm going somewhere with taste! More importantly i want to be in a full ensemble set-up at some point.

I was introduced to the likes of Morbid Angel and Mayhem by my mother, would you believe - around 10 years ago... (when i was only a wee 9 year old) and it has never let me go thus far! At least i managed to avoid all that pussy crap that tends to introduce people to metal.

BY YOUR MUM! oh hahahaha! That fucking class mate, Koil's mum is into Cliff Richard and other mindless shite like that. Ok so have been with the crowd that counts for ten years which makes that 1996? So you missed getting influenced by Nu-Metal.
Now it's one thing listening but to compose and play is another matter, how did you get the creative bug?

Heh i know. You should meet her now though... she's all hippy/surfer-esque. Very odd woman.

I've always had a sorta penchant for music, and usually have no problem in getting new ideas out - when i write things it's almost like a flood-gate... i dread to think what other madness i'll come out with. I only really get influenced by my mind or my surroundings... consciously i don't draw influences from other bands (there's too many clones in the world already!)

What type of surroundings would give you inspiration?

Well for Black Despondency, the main imagery used was the bleakness of the future for the world... but as for physical surroundings, the old clich of forests; anywhere secluded or mountainous. Mist/darkness/storms is ever present in my lyrical themes. I love the whole obscurity/gloominess factor - as it goes well with the ambience/atmospheric influences in my music.

Are there any styles of extreme metal that you have trouble listening to?

Actually no. Thrash sometimes can be really boring, but i love anything and everything - from Funeral Doom to Grind, from Raw Black Metal to Folk/Viking Metal, from Brutal Death to Progressive. It basically depends on my mood

Where do you see yourself going with your band? Do you think you will want to gig when you get to Northampton?

I basically just wanna keep writing music, in whatever style grasps me. I think just to try and get the name out would be cool. I would be interested in maybe wtiting a couple of songs for a split with bands of a similar style - if you know of any.

I would like to do gigs but not with anguis aeturnus. I couldn't imagine anyone having a similar way of thinking as me musically, and getting people to play instruments would be hard. The music probably wouldn't fit a gig either. It's more suitable to listen to on your own... i dunno - in the dark like an emo or something.

Emo? LOL music to slit your wrists to.
What have you done in the way of band promtion then?

Myspace has been a good way to both get my music heard and discover other bands - many more great bands out there than I realised.

There is a site that is superior though, www.metalhordes.com. It's a fantastic site for everything promotion wise. The forum's full of interesting people too, and i have to admit i'm a regular poster... It's just a great way to fill the void that's left by the pitiful metal scene around my area.

I've been on Metalhordes, it's a cool site and talking of site promotion, what do you think of Blood-river so far, are there any ways we could improve it?

Metalhordes is great, i advise anyone to go on there with their band.

I like your style of interviewing haha... i guess it makes it more personal than just givin the bands a list of questions to fill out. I think to improve all you really need to do is approach a variety of other bands (from various metal genres) and basically keep spreadin the word!

Sorted, glad you like it, now I think I'll ask you a few basics if you don't mind.

Do you read and if so, what do you read?

Last film you enjoyed

List me five good tv shows

Best subject at school

I read every day, and most of my free time is taken up by reading. I read fantasy fiction like a nerd, stuff like Terry Brooks. I read a lot of crime thrillers too - Michael Connolley for instance is excellent. Mostly what I do read is fictional. I don't much care for other's opinions - i can form my own. Oh, and I never read newspapers - becuase the media is all LIES.

The last film I enjoyed was Cube Zero - the whole series was pretty good. Its these people and they're trapped - well... in a Cube. A lot cooler than it sounds.

I would struggle to name 5 good tv shows haha. Anything funny - Green Wing is fucking hilarious. My Name is Earl... ummm most of TV is drivel, and the news is... again... lies ;-)

My best subject at school... and thus what I'm going to study at university, has always been French. Everything else was too dull / trivial / pointless for me to take an interest in. The vast majority of what is taught in school has no relevance to every day life. Whereas a language is a key to another world i guess.

Fair do's Dani, I think I'll wrap this one up now, it's been a pleasure chatting to you and I wish you the best for you and your band.

Before I go, Please remember o sign up to our message board and tell the regulars about yourself and your band, we are all a decent enough set of lads and lasses and We'll give you a warm welcome.

Thanks
Dave and Koil.

Yes mate... thanks for interviewin me! I'll do that tomorrow - right now is time for sleep !

Thanks again d00ds
